Editor’s Picks: June 2017

World’s Largest Swimming Lesson
Friday June 23

Swimming is a skill that not only opens up all the best Orange County has to offer in its fun community pools, excellent beach areas, surfing, sailing, diving and more; it is essential to keep your kids safe. There are just too many opportunities for kids to encounter bodies of water to assume you will always be by their side. It can be difficult taking the plunge, especially if your child is a bit older or has fears around water, so this is a perfect opportunity to join in a large scale lesson to get kids on their way to water safety. If grandma or grandpa doesn’t swim or another adult family member, having them join in the fun will further encourage your little one.

Adults and children (ages 3 and older) are invited to participate in this unique, worldwide event. Over 20 countries in five continents are involved in this international initiative to raise awareness for drowning prevention. Sign-in starts at 5:30 pm, with the on-site lesson beginning at 6 pm. Afterwards, you can hang around for a free recreation swim, which will be followed by a screening of the PG-rated movie Sing at dusk.

Plus, there will be children development resources for parents and free children’s health screenings for speech and language, social and emotional developmental, vision, hearing, dental, and body mass index. Stuffed Animal Vet Clinic
Friday June 9

Kids can bring their favorite stuffed animal today to the zoo, where it can be examined by a member of the zoo’s veterinary staff. What better place is there for your “animal” to have a check-up? Between 10 am-12 pm, the zoo animal doctors will be on hand to help make your cuddly pal feel better. Visiting the “vet clinic” is free with paid zoo admission, and you don’t have to make an appointment either!
