Our annual event continues to connect families with educational resources for their children.
Parenting OC’s Learn & Grow Family Fair brought together locals on Sept. 12 for a day full of entertainment and connections in after-school activities, tutoring, enrichment programs and more.
The annual event, taking place at The District at Tustin Legacy, connects families with organizations across Orange County that support educational growth, developmental needs and extracurricular engagement. Entertainment for the day included St. Paul Lutheran Panther Pom Team Cheer/Dance, Laguna Playhouse, Creative Parties for Kids: Princess Etiquette and Superhero Training as well as Tulie the T-Rex Storytime, OC Hit’s Band Raelynne, students from the ABT Gillespie School at Segerstrom Center for the Arts and more.
Lexa Wroniak, founding board member and executive director at nonprofit Platinum Performing Arts in Orange, was at her organization’s booth offering squishies, candy, bubbles, stickers and a prize wheel for families to spin.
“It’s a really wonderful day and it’s been fun to get to interact with more of our community,” she said. “We are here to share our dance and musical theater classes. We offer musical theater and dance classes to kids of all ages, levels and abilities. So we’ve got options for anybody. We offer all-abilities classes for students with disabilities and we also have scholarships for students with disabilities and students in low-income families.”
Jodi Van Beurden, market development coordinator for Behavior Frontiers, was at their booth with goodies for families and kids, including sidewalk chalk, fidget toys, sunglasses, stickers and bubbles.
“It’s been a really, really wonderful event for us to attend,” Van Beurden said. “We offer a comprehensive ABA therapy for families that have children with autism. And we do it both in our centers and at home, we have in-home services too. We’re really excited because our brand-new center is going to be opening up in Brea on Monday. And it’s going to be the first center in the OC.”
Claire Takeda, senior director of admissions at Fairmont Schools, was at the schools’ booth educating parents on their offerings.
“We’re just here to spread the word about our five beautiful campuses that we have here in Orange County,” she said. “We are educating families about what our schools are all about. We have a really strong academic program. We start with students as young as 2 years old and we go all the way up through high school.”
She said they were also enjoying the event’s entertainment.
“It’s been a great event,” she said. “We were peeking around at the rock band that just concluded. They were fantastic. And we’re excited to see the little dancers come up next.”
