PICK OF THE MONTH
Roger’s Gardens Halloween Boutique: Malice in Wonderland
Tuesday, October 1-Thursday, October 31

Roger’s Gardens has gone all Lewis Carroll for its Halloween Boutique (open 9 am-6 pm daily). Let the White Rabbit be your guide into this strange den of Halloween decorations, a labyrinth of decor ready to help make your home Halloween-ready. Explore the Mad Hatter’s treasure-stuffed workshop and perhaps sit down to celebrate a very merry un-birthday by pulling up a chair for a cup of tea at the Mad Hatter’s Tea Party. And watch out for the Red Queen — or you may just lose your head! You won’t want to miss Roger’s Gardens’ Malice in Wonderland this Halloween season.

The OC International Auto Show
Thursday, October 4 – Sunday, October 6

One of the country’s largest auto shows showcases over 600 new cars, trucks, electric cars and exotic cars of all sizes and types. Attendees can sit behind the wheel or (if you’re a licensed driver) test drive various vehicles. There will be interactive displays and kid-geared activities too. Hours vary daily; consult the website for full details.

This not-so-scary day-time Halloween celebration is especially geared for kids ages 3-11. You can trick-or-treat in Ghost Town and meet the Creepy Critters of Calico; enjoy Camp Snoopy Theater’s “Monsters are Coming” show and participate in a costume contest, and go on the Timber Mountain Log Ride at the Halloween Hootenanny. Spooky Farm is open on weekends and on Halloween.

Up Close With Bugs and Spiders
Saturday, October 5

While “Up Close With Bugs And Spiders” could be the name of a TV program, it is actually a special OC Zoo program where kids (ages 5-10) will get a hands-on education about bugs and spiders. Advanced phone reservations are required for this one-hour workshop (11 am-12 pm) and the $5 class fee includes one adult.

32nd Annual San Clemente Seafest
Sunday, October 6

Seafest serves up a lot between 9:30 am-3 pm — especially for youths. Kids and teens can do the surf competition, on-land contests (like hula hooping, jump roping and tortilla tossing), and craft opportunities. The Business Expo might interest adults mostly, but the first-ever Street Taco Challenge, live entertainment and U.S. Coast Guard Search & Rescue demo should interest all ages.
