Leonard Cancer Institute

The doors to the highly anticipated Judi and Bill Leonard Institute for Cancer Prevention, Treatment and Wellness opened in November 2019. The new $80 million facility brings a comprehensive approach to cancer prevention, treatment and wellness at Mission Hospital’s Mission Viejo campus as a one-stop, standalone center. Philanthropists Bill and Judi Leonard made the largest charitable donation in Mission Hospital’s history and helped make it a reality. The 100,000-plus square foot, four-story institute houses a research and clinical trial program, a nurse navigation program, radiation oncology, imaging services, an infusion center, complementary therapies, an education center and a demonstration kitchen. The Nurse Navigators will guide patients through their treatment and take the role of the patient’s advocate by ensuring that the patient’s needs are being met and they are never left unattended.

BELLO by Sandro Nardone

On Nov. 18, Orange County gained a new authentic Italian restaurant with food served as it is in Italy. Italian-born Chef Sandro Nardone’s menu is a delicate balance of traditional Italian food and modern dishes that mirror those served at the best restaurants in Italy. “We all think we know Italian food. The truth is that the dishes that many consider ‘Italian’ were invented in America. You won’t find Italians in Italy eating chicken parmesan or spaghetti and meatballs,” Nardone said in a news release. “My goal at BELLO is to share the traditional foods of Italy as well as versions in a modern form like those served at top restaurants in Italy.” The restaurant promises to use the season’s finest and freshest ingredients available while paying attention to how each ingredient complements the others both in dishes and in cocktails. The bar serves cocktails like Bellinis made of fresh fruit and craft cocktails made with seasonal ingredients. Chef de Cuisine Frank DeLoach, one of the area’s most talented young chefs will be working alongside Nardone to see the vision through.

Mainspring Family Wellness

Mainspring Family Wellness

Opening their doors the week of Jan. 27, Mainspring Family Wellness was founded by Jenna Flowers, a licensed marriage and family therapist, author and speaker and Kristen Perlmutter, an educator and philanthropist. Flowers and Perlmutter are both mothers who created Mainspring Family Wellness with Orange County families in mind. Their mission for the center is to provide a place for support, belonging and resources for parenting and the social and emotional development of children. “We wanted to create a safe place of realness and support for parents in Orange County. We are all in this together — and want to provide families with the right tools to navigate this time in our lives,” Perlmutter said in a news release. Classes will begin at Mainspring Family Wellness on Jan. 27. Families can sign up now by visiting their website (mainspringfamilywellness.com).
