Hook, Line, Sinker!

Find the best family friendly fishing locations that Orange County has to offer.

1. Huntington Beach Pier

Huntington Beach Pier is the place to be when it comes to fishing. At 1,850 feet long, the iconic pier is one of the longest on the West Coast. It’s open from 5 a.m. until midnight and because it’s public, a fishing license is not required. Bring your gear and try to get your catch, and if the effort makes you hungry, Bud & Gene’s restaurant sits at the end of the pier for a good post-fishing meal.

2. Big Bear Lake

Big Bear Lake has excellent trout fishing year-round, but you can expect to catch any of the typical lake fish, like largemouth bass, black crappie and carp, too. Fishing is allowed from a boat or from the shore and you’ll want to choose your fishing spot based on the time of year. Don’t forget to secure a fishing license and if you plan to launch a boat, you’ll need a Lake Use Permit, too.

This boat-based fishing option in Southern OC will have you hooked. You’ll find opportunities for fishing clinics and trips for kids and adults alike just outside Dana Point Harbor. Experienced, family-friendly crew and skippers will be happy to guide you throughout the outing. The full-service galley is stocked with cold drinks, snacks and hot food for when you want to take a break and just admire the spectacular ocean views.

With its own park and refreshment area spot in the south of Fullerton, this lake is an amazing spot to get away from the everyday busy schedule and bond with your kids. Laguna Lake is famous for its variety of fish species in large numbers. Some fish that you can expect to encounter are trout, bass, channel catfish and bluegill. A fishing license is required at all times for ages 16 and over.
