Little Peeps Storytime Yoga

Published April 10, 2017 Admin Only:

Little Peeps Storytime Yoga

This new mobile children’s yoga and mindfulness business has earned rave reviews from many parents of children with Autism. The instructors call on their Montessori Method background and adjust classes to meet the sensory needs of all children.

Every month has a theme that is translated into yoga. A Space theme might start out with a Darth Vader pranayama breath. Instructors would then read a Star Wars story and invite children to act out the poses, like Luke Skywalker (Warrior Pose). Classes include stories and yoga, Sensorial color sorting, Science projects, Language development, Cooking projects, Art, Cultural and Physical Geography, Math, Zoology, Botany, themed Guided Meditations etc.

Stepping Stones Learning Academy

Stepping Stones Learning Academy

Two local specialized education centers have merged in a move officials say will provide students with “a more specialized academic program.” Stepping Stones Therapy Inc. — which has specialized in social skills training for the past decade — has just merged with Reid Day School. Reid Day is a place for “twice exceptional” students, meaning kids with genius-level IQs who also have special needs.

Through the merger, Stepping Stones created a learning center for twice exceptional homeschooled students. The tuition-based center requires students to be enrolled in a home-schooled program to participate. “Instead of a private school, we have created a Learning Academy specifically for these students,” says clinical director Brock Tropea, a speech and language pathologist. “In addition, it will help ensure such kids receive any special services they may require, such as speech and occupational therapy, as well as executive functioning and social skills training.”

Port View Preparatory

Port View Preparatory

A Yorba Linda school that serves special needs students is expanding with a new campus in Ontario. The new 25,000 square-foot facility can accommodate up to 84 students and is scheduled to open in late April. The expansion comes as Port View Yorba Linda continues to operate as “the best special needs school in the country.”

Officials say the Yorba Linda campus will keep offering the same service and low student-to-teacher ratio. Its student capacity is 60; the school serves students in kindergarten through age 22. The new campus will have seven classrooms, a computer lab, café and library. There will also be a large occupational therapy space, new sensory integration and exercise equipment, and more.
