The latest dance studio to hit OC’s “culture of character” is defined by “Le Gros Trois” (the big three):1. Hard work 2. Respect 3. Kindness. Mon Reve offers ballet, jazz, lyrical, and hip hop classes for children ages 2-12, but was created to combine a strong culture of character within the beauty of dance for all children. “Establishing the ballet program for children with Down Syndrome helped me realize that dance is about so much more than just dance,” says Paige Peplow, founder of Mon Reve (my dream). “It can help children build self-esteem, confidence, a work ethic, et cetera.”

ASPIRE at Hoag Hospital
According to the 2016 Orange County Community Indicators Report, mental health continues to be a rising problem with the hospitalization rate among children and youth (0-17) increasing 33% since 2005. The report also found the most common diagnosis, among children and youth, leading to hospitalization was major depression, which has risen 83% since 2005. To support the growing need in the community for teen mental health resources, Hoag is launching ASPIRE, an evidence-based intensive outpatient program to treat teen anxiety, depression and other mental health conditions. The intensive outpatient program is held after school hours, four-days-a-week for eight weeks. The program uses dialectical behavioral therapy, cognitive-behavioral therapy, and expressive arts to help teens develop and practice healthy behaviors and coping strategies.

School of Art
“My goal is to help students achieve their artistic goals – no matter what the age,” says Program Director and co-founder, Tina Rodriguez. “Art is something that anyone can enjoy and I’m here to guide and help anyone with a desire to create.” Together with her partner, Justin Tompkins, and a background in art and education, the team is following a successful ten year run with a Virginia school of art by opening an OC facility that will offer lessons, camps and studio time for kids and teens interested in furthering their artistic goals, or just interested in having a great time getting creative.
