As a parent, experiencing a sense of sheer wonder like you did as a child can be a rare experience. From stunning horses to enthralling riders, acrobats, aerialists, dancers, musicians and singers, Cavalia is a family affair. Created by the Latourelle family and their sons for your family’s delight, the internationally acclaimed show is an epic journey of nature’s greatest wonders while showcasing the beautiful relationship of horse and human.
Take your eyes, ears, mind, and heart on a galloping adventure with 65 horses of 11 different breeds and 45 artists from around the world, including the United States, Canada, Brazil, France, Guinea (Africa), Poland, Russia, Spain, Ukraine, Japan, and Italy. Beginning in a misty, enchanted forest and traveling to the arid deserts, African savannas, the American southwest, the Northern Lights, Easter Island and more, this grand tour de force transports your family much farther than the White Big Top in Irvine.
Marvel at the imaginative story about the relationship between human and horse on an immersive stage larger than the Anaheim Duck hockey rink, approximately 17,500 square feet. At times the stage is completely flooded with a magically appearing 40,000 gallon lake (recycled water, of course, as we are in a drought), other times it is a huge turning real carousel or an enchanted ice cave. Odysseo by Cavalia features the world’s biggest touring production and traveling White Big Top, the largest fanciful stage, jaw-dropping visual effects, and the greatest number of horses. Did you know the White Big Top stands 125 feet tall, higher than the Sleeping Beauty’s Castle in Anaheim’s Disneyland?
Having that many horses perform creates some fun facts to share with your kids before the show! Did you know that on an annual basis, the horses consume 15,000 bales of hay, 70,400 pounds of grain, and 1,750 pounds of carrots? Or that out of over 60 horses, 20 are stallions and the others are geldings? Or that the average age of the horses performing is 10 years old? These interesting facts can provide some additional excitement for the quiz at the beginning of the show!
When you attend Odysseo with your family, be sure to plan your experience well. If you are seeing the 8pm evening showing, be aware that it will be a late night and prepare accordingly. Perhaps bring your child’s favorite blankie in your purse to cuddle up with or wear your comfy shoes to potentially carry their sleeping bodies out of the theatre. We noticed a few toddlers who loved the first part of the show, but were sound asleep by the end of second act. If your children play instruments, be sure to point out the live musicians stationed to the left and right of the stage above the audience. Even have them count the horses in the captivating scenes and find the part when over 30 of these beautiful creatures are on stage choreographed in a moving line.
Great news for those of you worried that all of the tickets are sold out! The show has been extended in Irvine until April 4th! Find out more about the show and get tickets at cavalia.com and tag your photos with #odysseo and #parentingoc so we might see them!
