At the new Great Park ice rink, you can enjoy winter fun all year round. An affiliate of the Anaheim Ducks’ network, this new rink is open to the public and offers four different arenas. Three of the ice sheets meet National Hockey League size regulations, and the fourth meets the Olympic requirements. Two arenas are open now for family fun and special events from 5 a.m. to midnight daily. A grand opening is planned for March 7, when the rest of the facility, including a new restaurant and multiple retail spaces will be completed. The Anaheim Ducks will use Great Park for practice occasionally, and the 270,000-square-foot facility will also have an official Ducks merchandise store.

The Sycamore Spa by Hudson
The culmination of a partnership with Hudson Salon & Spa, The Ranch at Laguna Beach’s Sycamore Spa will now be known as The Sycamore Spa by Hudson. This newly rebranded location launched in January with all-new spa treatment options and a range of amenities and spa rituals designed to encompass the Laguna Beach experience. Services now include full body Swedish massages, gemstone facials, eyelash extensions and more. A much-anticipated new feature of The Sycamore is that locals can get a membership with a monthly fee of $99, and get treatment sessions of their choice. Kurt Bjokrman, general manager of The Ranch at Laguna Beach, said he was excited about the partnership. “We look forward to blending Hudson’s locally-driven spa therapies with our excellent service standards, creating a new ritual for locals and guests alike at our coastal canyon oasis,” he said.

Learning Rx
Learning Rx has built a foundation on a personalized and unique approach to learning, and is introducing its methods to the Irvine area with a brand-new branch in the city. From more than 80 centers in the United States and 40 centers around the world, LearningRx has helped over a hundred-thousand adults and children better their learning skills. By focusing on cognitive skills, the center aims to help clients think faster, learn easier and perform better overall. A key part of their unique approach to tutoring and cognitive improvement is keeping their client one-on-one with an instructor, allowing for rapport, focus and accountability. “LearningRx does for the brain what a physical trainer does for the body,” said Noha Marwan, director of the new Irvine center. “We train cognitive performance by targeting the underlying cognitive skills that are responsible for how we grasp and process information.”

Portola Springs Community Park
The Portola Springs Community Park is now open to the public and includes a wide variety of sports fields and multipurpose rooms. The 14,000-square-foot center also hosts two classrooms, an expansive patio space and a Native American Wing. The exterior park itself expands over 32 acres, and has two lighted softball fields, two lighted soccer fields, six lighted pickle-ball courts, three tennis courts and even a beach volleyball area. Complete with a concessions building for snacks and a warm-up field, local sports teams can thoroughly enjoy the center’s multiple fields. The center opened on Jan. 26 and will start hosting classes and recreational activities starting early February. Programs will include after-school and camp activities as well as other recreational activities. Hours for the center are from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. during the week, until 10 p.m. on Saturday and until 6 p.m. Sunday.
