PICK OF THE MONTH
The Mom-Made Market
November 18 – November 19

To truly get in the spirit of our annual Moms at Work/Mompreneur issue, we thought we would highlight a one stop shop for holiday goodies and gifts for the whole family, all carrying mom’s approval!  This shopping experience returns to the OC Fairgrounds for the second year.  The unique market provides a platform for mom-trepreneurs to sell their goods and services, network with one another, create new friendships, come meet their supporters in person, and to have a fun day enjoying the spirit of the season.

Besides the holiday shopping featuring the 125+ vendors, you can enjoy food & drink while kids can get a free photo with Santa each day from 12pm-1pm.  You can first feel good for getting a good chunk of your holiday shopping out of the way early enough to enjoy the actual season…then again for supporting the wonderful community of clever moms who went out on a limb to start their own businesses and operations while still holding down the fort at home with the kiddos.

Pumpkin Launch
November 4

The skies over Cal State Fullerton will be full of flying pumpkins today, but there is a perfectly reasonable explanation.  It is just the return of the annual Pumpkin Launch, co-organized by the university and the Discovery Cube OC.  Come out and see which competitors have the right stuff to make their gourd soar.  It’s fun to see which ones succeed and which ones splatter on the ground.

Reading In The Redwoods
November 12

Kids, and their parents, will take a “Tree Hug Hike” out to the Redwood Forest, where they will listen to Valerie Bain read The Giving Tree under a big tree.  Families should bring their own towel or blanket to use while relaxing during this storytime.  Afterward, everyone will take a nature walk, help in an ENC clean-up, and launch seed balls from the meadow deck.  Parents must remain with children at all times.  Pre-registration requested; walk-ups are accepted if there is room.

An Irish Christmas
November 27

If you have enjoyed An Irish Christmas on PBS, then you definitely will enjoy this live stage presentation.  The rousing performance features spirited singing of traditional Irish tunes along with some thrilling Irish dancing, including world-champion Irish dancers Scott Doherty (Riverdance) and Tyler Schwartz (Gaelforce Dance).  It’s a night of holiday merriment for the whole family to enjoy.  By the way, last year’s show sold out, so don’t dilly-dally if you want tickets.

Full Moon Walk
November 3

While this Full Moon Walk has nothing to do with Michael Jackson, the evening promises its own type of excitement.  On this nocturnal adventure, you can hear all about the Full Moon and the mysterious legends associated with it from ENC Naturalist Lesle Helliwell.  Flashlights are discouraged.  Advance reservations are required for this program, which is for those 6 and older.  Be prepared to come home with a case of “Full Moon Fever.”
