Katella Grill

Katella Grill

This neighborhood favorite has been operated by long-time local residents for over 50 years. Three generations of the Learakos family have brought heart to the table, every night, but perhaps never more so than Monday evening, October 9th. When the tragic Anaheim Hills wildfire broke out, many Anaheim Hills, Tustin and Orange residents were put on mandatory evacuation. That’s when Mike Learakos stepped forward to do what he could for the community.

“For us, it started through Facebook and social media, we recognized so many people and neighbors that were our regulars in this position. It was distressing to watch them struggle. I remember as a kid having to evacuate. It’s harrowing to scramble through the house trying to make decisions — which memories do you want to keep and which are you willing to lose. It’s so disconcerting. So often, food is the last thing on your mind. The next thing you know it’s evening and you haven’t eaten all day. We wanted to offer a comfortable, friendly place far enough from the danger or peril that they could relax and eat and not have to worry about having money with them or a bill coming at the end.”

Katella Grill is a popular neighborhood restaurant with a loyal following who return on a weekly basis for the good food, good value and friendly, genuine service. We love the under $5 Happy Hour deals like Smoked Brisket Nachos, Hand Breaded Onion Rings, BBQ Baby Back Rib Tips, Molten Chocolate S’More Cake and Fresh Cobbler.

Pumpkin Cream Cheese Pie

A Pie Like No Other

We were inspired by the sight of Marie Callender’s Pumpkin Pie/Cheesecake Combo (www.mariecalenders.com. What other genius pie mashups could we devise? Creating these unique concoctions need not be any more complicated than making the single pie you might have planned for your holiday table. Just invite a close friend or family member over for a baking session. Each armed with their own favorite recipe, prep while enjoying some quality time and simply share half of each compatible recipe’s filling.

Here are a few of our favorite combos:

  • Pecan Pie and Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough
  • Smore’s Pie with Toasted Marshmallow and Banana Cream Pie
  • Cherry Cheesecake and Chocolate Cream Pie
  • Dutch Apple Pie and Caramel Fudge Batter
  • Peach Cobbler and Cheesecake
