Zombee Donuts
It takes real dead-ication to make creations that are both fun to look at and delicious. Mother/daughter team Marie Theodore and Vanessa Guillen wanted to combine their love of “The Walking Dead” and baking, so Zombee Donuts was born and has been creating monstrous treats ever since. Try one of their signature themed donuts like the Eyeball, a red velvet cake donut with white icing and a chocolate ganache “pupil” in the center. Or bite the head off of their glazed zombie-shaped donut with a jelly-filled head. And vegans rejoice! They have a fresh selection of egg-free, dairy-free donuts every day for all the plant-based walkers out there because as they like to say, “who needs brains when you can eat Zombee Donuts?”

The Poisoned Apples
Four years ago, Lisa Wallace wanted caramel apples for her upcoming October wedding and was surprised at how difficult they were to find, so she decided to make them herself. Her guests loved them and encouraged her to sell them to the public—which is exactly what she did. The Poisoned Apples began selling on Etsy before creating their own website, and frequently have booths at local farmers’ markets and pop-up boutiques around Orange County. “We describe our aesthetic as ‘spooky elegance,’” said Jeff Wallace, Lisa’s husband and business partner. So delicious even Snow White herself wouldn’t be able to resist.

Date Night at The Cauldron
Halloween isn’t just for kids. Grab your partner and head to The Cauldron for a devilish date night. Sip on a Chupacabra, spiked with Mezcal and lemon jalapeño syrup, dare to try the Hell Hound, a gin and tonic infused with pomegranate peppercorn shrub, or roll the dice on the Black Cauldron, a coffee martini with Kahlua, vodka and cold-press coffee. Owner Lara Hanneman, former creative director at Knott’s Berry Farm, really gets into the spirit of the season with specialty food items, extra creepy decor and even a Halloween party and costume contest on Oct. 31.
Universal Studios Halloween Horror Nights
Take a trip back in time to the 1980s and treat yourself to a taste of the Upside Down this fall at Universal Studios Halloween Horror Nights. This year’s theme is inspired by the hit Netflix series, “Stranger Things,” and they’re serving up the best dishes Hawkins, Indiana has to offer. Feast on a classic Benny’s Burger or dig into the terrifyingly tempting Demogorgon’s Totcho, a surprising twist on the classic nacho. To channel your inner heroine, order up a plate of Eleven’s Waffle Extravaganza, a stack of Kellogg’s Eggo waffles smothered in whipped cream and topped with chocolate chips, jelly beans and Reese’s Pieces. Halloween Horror Nights runs through Nov. 3.
