This Southern California tradition returns to the Redondo Beach Pier March 8 to welcome spring’s arrival. Bring a kite (or buy one there) to fly — and maybe you can win a prize too. Award categories include the “youngest kite flyer,” “youngest at heart kite flyer” and “maker of the best handmade kite.” The afternoon’s activities (12 pm-5 pm) also include arts and crafts, dance performances, live music, face painting and a martial arts demonstration.
