To celebrate the hard-working, selfless moms of our community, Parenting OC Magazine teamed up with local business to give two lucky moms a fabulous makeover package. Family and friends submitted an essay about why a mother in their life is deserving of a makeover. A huge congratulations to Deepa Patel and Guadalupe Barrera for winning Parenting OC’s Mom Makeover!
Deepa Patel of Anaheim
“My Mom has spent her entire life in service and has never taken time to treat herself. She previously spent 6 years working in East Africa, the Middle East, and South Asia in humanitarian aid. When she had my brother, she moved to California and began volunteering locally. She gives so much to our school through volunteering at the PTA and at the OC Food Bank (it’s why her nails are always broken!). During COVID-19, she felt compelled to support people who were suffering around the U.S. and world and began working in Washington, DC, on policy for equity and justice in the U.S. Congress. Work in Congress keeps her so busy that she hasn’t had a haircut in over a year! She turned 40 last month, and instead of celebrating herself, she treated me and my siblings. She cares so much about other people, she deserves to feel special through this makeover giveaway. Though, even if she wins, she may try to give it to another mom!”

“Guadalupe deserves this make over because you can ask anyone and they will tell you about her kind, constantly giving heart. A recent cancer survivor who is trying to find her new image, who won’t spend a dime on herself. She’d rather give the money to her children, grandchildren or help someone else out. She is the person you want in your corner who will mention your name in a room when you’re not there and be your biggest go to for the good times and the tough times doing whatever she possibly can to help. A very good soul that deserves a royal treatment for once in her life, although she’d probably offer to give it away because that is who she is.“
