A new dance studio has opened in South Orange County. Owner and mother of two Amanda Cobb teaches ballet, hip-hop, jazz dancing, modern, gymnastics and more at Ballet Academy and Movement (BAM). Cobb’s love of teaching, coupled with the lack of quality training due to the COVID-19 shutdowns, drove her to open her own teaching facility. The location is complete with three full-size, mirrored rooms as well as a workout room and strength-training area. Cobb’s dance experience includes moving to Chicago and then New York as a teenager to learn and train from luminaries in the fields of jazz dance and ballet, including with the School of American Ballet. She then earned professional positions at the Ohio Ballet, American Ballet Theatre and The Washington Ballet. After her career was cut short by a torn ACL, Cobb realized she wanted to give back and teach. Cobb also works with athletes who are rehabilitating from injury as well as sports teams, cheer groups and general exercise clients through Pilates and stretch classes. BAM’s studio is located in San Clemente. Grounded in Cobb’s purpose to teach the diversity of movement, classes are open to everyone from young kids to professional dancers.
