At Jamboree families discovered summer activities—camps, learning programs, sports & travel
Our annual event returned April 18 with learning programs, live entertainment and more.
Parenting OC’s annual Kids Summer Opportunities Fair, Jamboree!, was back at The District at Tustin Legacy in April for another year of learning and fun.
About 1,500 guests spent the Saturday morning and afternoon (10 a.m. to 3 p.m.) exploring local exhibitors sharing their programs, camps, activities and more with families.
Exhibitors included Aqua-Tots Swim Schools, Urban Workshop, Laguna Playhouse, Crean Lutheran, LePort Montessori, Russian School of Math, Westcliff Early Learning Academy, Orange Unified School District, Segerstrom Center for the Arts, Coder School and more.
The stage entertainment lineup included Fountain Valley High School Chamber Strings, Laguna Playhouse Youth Theatre, Creative Parties for Kids: Princess Etiquette & Superhero Training, Huntington Beach Academy for the Performing Arts singers, Creative Parties for Kids: Tulie the T-Rex Storytime, Tustin Musical Students, students from the ABT Gillespie School at Segerstrom Center for the Arts, Coredenza Piano Students and The Company Kids from Orange County Song & Dance.
Families participated in a scavenger hunt as well as many activities at individual booths, including BubblePOP’s bubble station where children could step inside a giant bubble.
“We’re a new school that just opened around the corner, so it’s really fun to be here,” said Jasmine Boller, director of Westcliff Early Learning Academy in Irvine. “We have children planting sunflowers and just connecting with the community. They’ve had a great time. We’ve gotten a little dirty, but we do have some wet wipes, so all good there.”
Shannon Brown, Early Learning coordinator for Orange Unified School District said, “It’s so exciting. This is not our first time to be invited and we’re thrilled you continue to have us back. We are meeting families not just from our own district but all the way from here to South County — Mission Viejo, Saddleback — and it’s exciting to share what we’re doing here in Orange.”
Samantha Teymouri, director of summer experience Camp SPV at Saint Pius V Catholic School in Buena Park, talked to families about the camp, which has classes every day for five weeks and both academic and enrichment activities, like cooking, drama and music.
“It’s so great to meet so many different parents from around Orange County,” she said. “We’re really hoping to get some new families to experience our school community and our family, and we’re grateful for the opportunity.”
Segerstrom Center for the Arts representatives shared information on all the program offerings available for the whole family, while students from the ABT Gillespie School performed.
“It’s really cool to meet kids of all ages,” said Jacqui Pash, communications specialist. “We have programs for kids of all ages — so any kid that comes to our booth, we have something for them: amazing festivals, amazing education programs, shows for all kids and even shows for the adults.”
Kristina Khachatryan, marketing coordinator in the Southern California region for Russian School of Math, said the school has a long-standing partnership with Parenting OC.
“We love this event,” she said. “It’s a great event, free and very entertaining, very educational for everyone and we’re definitely going to do it again.”
Creative Parties for Kids brought roaming characters like Spider-Man as well as live stage entertainment to the event.
“It feels like a special partnership that we’ve been bringing joy and helping children in Orange County together for a really long time and it’s very special to me,”
said Lisa Cohen, director of Creative Parties for Kids. “I love it. I think it’s really well organized this year. … I loved all the kids dancing and singing and I really loved our show. I thought it was really sweet, the Superhero Princess Training.”
Kim de Montmorency enjoyed promoting St. Paul’s Lutheran School in Orange’s summer camps and preschool.
“I’m loving it,” she said. “The engagement has been great. So many parents have come through and enjoyed what we have available today as well as with the other vendors. It’s a very diverse event, so I love that. There’s so many things for our parents to engage in.”
