Summer is always something we can look forward to — but that sentiment has probably never been more true.
We’ve been through a lot and as hope continues to spring, we enter summer with a sense of promise. Our June issue is a reflection of this promise as we help guide you through the summer and even into fall.
A particularly high point of this sense of optimism is the reopening of Knott’s Berry Farm and the theme park’s 100-year celebration — which was put on hold from last year. With health and safety guidelines in place, Knott’s has opened to the public once again with a summer schedule packed with activities. Read about what you can expect at the reopened park in this month’s feature.
Even as the recent school year comes to an end, families are likely looking toward the fall in anticipation of the new school year. We have rounded up a collection of features to keep families up-to-date on what to expect, including what we know at this point about education for the fall along with our private education guide.
We also spotlight one area of education that was impacted by distance learning: STEM. Our feature delves into how STEM programs moved through this challenging period, as well as how STEM summer camps have fared.
As the state of education evolves, we profile a new school concept — Elite Campus — offering an array of custom programs in a very unique format.
Meanwhile, Local Hero features a doctor and dad who shares his knowledge of science with local kids while also spending quality time with his own children in a rock band. Family Wellness covers tips on how parents can help combat the 2021 summer and pandemic slide while Ask the Expert offers swim safety tips as families head back out into the water. Mindfulness details how dads can benefit from mindful communication with their kids.
You also don’t want to miss our POC Community section this month, where you’ll see the results (and photos) of our Mother’s Day Makeover contest. And Calendar is full of new activities for the whole family to get your summer started.
There’s hope of a great summer ahead. Stay safe and have some fun.
