A Month for Moms —From the Editor

Jessica Peralta From the Editor Back At It
(Jessica Peralta)

Things have changed. But then some things never change.

Moms are a perfect example. As their children grow, they must adapt to their babies becoming toddlers and preschoolers, elementary schoolers, adolescents and so on. But in reality, their children will always be those newborns they must nurture and protect.

Our current world is full of change and the necessity to adapt. But for many, Mom still provides that steadfast sense of protective nurturing. It is to these moms we devote this month’s issue to.

For our May Moms Issue, we have spotlighted some OC social media influencing moms who are using their platforms to give back in some way. From a licensed marriage and family therapist giving back in the form of mental health support, to a veteran who helps non-profits that have helped in her own life — these moms have built up a presence and are now doing good with it.

Of course, we have many other philanthropists in our community. Local Hero focuses on two Orange County teens who discovered their own passion for philanthropy during the pandemic. It started with mask donations, but is evolving into something much bigger.

Along the mom lines, our Mindfulness expert details some of the benefits of becoming a more mindful mom and how practicing it can help ease some of the stresses of motherhood.

Meanwhile, Family Wellness is all about practicing art as a family and the potential benefits this can offer. There are also some special art activities families (or moms and kids) can practice together.

As we head into increased reopenings, we also continue to track the latest virtual and in-person activities, so you don’t want to miss our Calendar section.

It’s a time to celebrate those women in our lives who are always there for us when we need them. Happy Mother’s Day!
