Teens and pre-teens are now more savvy and design-forward than ever, making themed rooms within their age group also a thing of the past. As this age group matures, it’s important that they have a space of their own.
“Teens have migrated towards rooms that are designed around a desired vibe or feeling,” said Crane. For teenage boys, her team is creating spaces that are “cool and urban with an industrial flare.” For teenage girls, “rooms that are dramatic and chic with a bohemian twist.”
Nichols says glamour is also coming back to teen girls’ rooms. “Rich, opulent jewel tones, gold finishes, mirrored tables, crystal chandeliers, art deco pieces and graphic prints on headboards and other furnishings are really popular.”
Teens are also in need of spaces to hang out with their friends and socialize, report the designers. “We are relocating desks and study areas to more open family friendly areas of the home and giving the youngsters a more comfortable lounging area in their bedrooms with the addition of mismatched chairs and small sofas,” said Crane.
A combination of personality and functionality create a room you can be proud of and your tween will never want to leave.
