“Love is all you need.”
“Love conquers all.”
“Love will find a way.”
Whether it’s a song title, lyric or other pop culture reference or saying, the concept of love permeates our culture. Though February is now commonly considered “the month of love,” as human beings, we know love all year round. Whether it’s our kids, our significant other, our pet or a dear friend … love is simply part of who we are as a species.
It’s this special emotion that we celebrate this month through the pages of Parenting OC—even where it might not be so obvious.
One of our features (“Love & Marriage”) hits directly on the theme with advice from experts on how to keep the spark alive in a relationship once kids are in the picture. It’s an important topic for couples everywhere. Our other feature—perhaps not as obviously—is also about love. February is also our camps issue and we have focused on special interest camps including those themed around science and the outdoors. These camps are often geared toward kids who have a special passion—cooking, perhaps—and they are designed to encourage and support that love. In other cases, children might find a new passion: a love of sailing or fishing maybe?
Beyond our features, our Local Hero this month is a teen who turned a project into a passion. A Girl Scout who saw an important issue—the terrible tragedy of human trafficking—and turned it into an awareness project for other students to continue.
February is also a time to celebrate and take care of a special part of our local landscape: the monarch butterfly. The Pause Button shares about ways to contribute to and enjoy these orange-and-black beauties that are currently in a state of decline.
Of course, we have more practical parenting tips to share as well. Ask the Experts offers tips on talking to teens, when to take your kids to the doctor after a fall or other bruise-causing activity, and indoor entertainment on rainy days. Family Wellness details how to start kids off for a lifetime of good dental habits—just in time for National Children’s Dental Health Month. As practical as the advice may be, it is all inspired by parents’ love and caring for the family.
So as you read through our magazine pages this month and spend time with the family, remember that whatever daily irritations and stresses may arise, it all eventually comes back to one thing.
