The last few weeks for me has been a time to remember why I live in Orange County.
It’s not just because I was born and raised here. Nor is it because of the family I have here. Of course, those things are important.
But the real reason I remain in Orange County and have done so my whole life is because of everything it represents: family, city life, the outdoors, theme parks, fitness and so much more.
It’s these things that we celebrate in our Readers’ Choice Awards. And these things that you celebrate, because they are selections made by you: our readers. From a long list of activities specifically designed for kids (Kids Play) and activities for the whole family (Family Fun) to those special days mom and dad can have an outing they can share together (Mom & Dad), we have highlighted the best of the best in Orange County. Of course, the editorial team at Parenting OC had a few selections of our own, which you will find throughout the issue.
Foodie Jr. this month is dedicated to the food and drink establishments that have stood out to us and our readers, and Openings is showcasing a number of new stores and restaurants opening at the Irvine Spectrum Center—an Editors’ Choice winner.
We honor all of you in this list that help make the community what it is, giving it that special something so unique to Orange County.
Even though many of our pages this month are devoted to Readers’ Choice, we didn’t forget to bring you our other popular fixtures. Family Wellness offers some wise advice on talking with your kids about the birds and the bees. Pause Button helps parents keep summer going by offering tips on planning quick picnics in the fall. And What’s Hot gives parents some unique ideas for back-to-school items for themselves (yes, there’s massager in there).
As you get into the groove of morning drop-off, soccer practice and bake sale meetings, remember to stop and look around you at all of the amazing parks, family businesses and schools that make this county so great.
You wouldn’t be here if you didn’t love it as much as I do.
