Ode to Dads
Maybe it’s just me, but June seems to have snuck up on us faster than any other month. Summer already makes its debut soon, and although this time is referred to as “June Gloom” due to the SoCal overcast skies phenomenon, the month offers anything but dreariness. Schools are out, families are beginning to flock to lawns to capture an outside film or concert, summer camps are kicking off, and there are family-friendly festivals offered practically every weekend. You still may need to grab a blanket for these events, but that only means you and your family can huddle closer to stay warm and make summer memories together.
There is another special celebration this month – paying tribute to the remarkable dads and father-like figures for Father’s Day. We honor the true greatness of fatherhood throughout this issue and highlight the wonderful traits that make a father, a dad. The man in our lives that have held our hand as we cross the street, coached our little league teams, provided for our families, made us laugh, nurtured and guided us through good times and bad. Whether biologically or spiritually, these special male figures play an important role in overall development – for kids and adults alike. This month is a time to reflect on that extraordinary man and celebrate the wonderful things he has brought to you and your family. Check out the rundown of fun places to celebrate in Orange County on Father’s Day, which falls on June 17 this year, including extravagant brunches and fun things to do with dad. For golfer dads, don’t forget to check out the listing of top golf courses within the O.C.
Also, meet some of the great fathers within our county in our “Dad Devotions” story. If I wasn’t limited on pages, I truly could have written an entire book on the dads throughout our neighborhoods that are positive, encouraging, hardworking and, frankly, just dad-like. They are admirable, not for their paychecks or ranked by popularity, but for their love for their families and other great things they have done for their communities. They are not exceptionally out of the ordinary, which, in perspective, makes them even more extraordinary. Their dedication to their children and – in some cases – others’ young ones as mentors and leaders is just refreshing to know about. You will see your own dad through these dads.
For parents struggling to find the right school for their child for the fall, we’ve also included an extensive Private School Guide that is packed with information on the numerous private schools in our county. In addition, we have added tips from the U.S. Department of Education to guide you through the process of visiting private and public schools to feel comfortable with your choice. Lastly, our “OC Woman” feature is back, with fun must-have and reasonably priced summer items from local vendors for young girls and women.
I hope this June issue kicks off your summer with plenty of positive vibes and inspiration for you and your family! As always, feel free to send me your comments, suggestions, stories, photos, or whatever it is you want to share. I have enjoyed each email and connecting with all of you wonderful parents throughout our beautiful county.
All my best,
Jackie Moe
