Parenting OC returned to the Discovery Cube in Santa Ana on March 3 for the 12th Annual Family Summer Opportunities Jamboree with a jam-packed, record-breaking amount of attendees.
Families visiting from all over Southern California flocked to the Discovery Cube of Santa Ana on March 3 for a day of exhibits, entertainment and information on everything from local day and overnight summer camps to sports leagues to learning programs. The 12th annual Jamboree welcomed over 3,500 attendees – a record-breaking amount from the past decade Parenting OC has produced the summer opportunities fair.
A total of 67 exhibitors filled the two floors of the museum, with moms, dads and children of all ages gaining information and even signing up for an assortment of summer activities, including organizations like the YMCA of Orange County and Newport Whales. Guests throughout the grounds enjoyed games, competitions, giveaways, and an abundance of other family-oriented attractions.
The Easter Bunny, Batman, and glamorous princesses, including Jasmine, Ariel, Belle, and Rapunzel strolled the two floors for free photo opportunities and autographs with guests. Children’s faces were decorated silly with paint from guest face painters, and many left with extravagant balloon animals, flowers, and other fun figures by SoCal party company Twist and Shout and Brettso the Great from Costa Mesa.
The Reptile Zoo of Fountain Valley was also present giving the opportunity to be face-to-face with creatures from all over the world, including a turtle, a snake, an alligator, and large lizards. Outside of the museum was the popular Aquarium of the Pacific’s Aquarium on Wheels, with sharks, starfish, and sea urchins for guests to touch.
The annual Cute Kid Cover Contest was sold out this year with a total of 150 babies, toddlers, tweens and twins dressed snazzy and ready for their close-up with Parenting OC cover photographer Ana Brandt and her team. Winners of the contest, which is held at the end of March, will be featured on the cover of a future issue.
Families also received a free kids admission to the Discovery Cube of OC, and many explored the more than 100 hands-on interactive exhibits throughout the fascinating children’s museum during and after the Jamboree.

“It’s only my second year doing this event and it’s always been a blast performing for the passerbys! Not only do I get to perform and advertise our magic club, my fellow young magicians get to perform, in addition to market themselves as well!”

“This expo has been a great way for us to market to families all over orange county and we have made it a priority to attend this event every year!”
—Melissa Torres, City of Newport Beach
“The Jamboree is an important piece of our marketing plan. We find it to be a great venue, well organized, plenty of families in attendance, and overall had a great ROI for our camp. Every camp is different and has different features. The Jamboree offers parents an opportunity to meet with various program directors with fun mixed in. The Jamboree helps me reach new families and connect with other Socal programs in the area. The parent turnout was great and we look forward to participating again. My one complaint would be that I need some Ricola cough drops afterwards as our voices get hoarse from talking to so many people.”
—Scottie Roach, Director, Camp James
