We finally took our first mommy and me yoga class! It was at the cutest eco children boutique and community mommy center I have ever seen. (“Granola Babies,” near South Coast Plaza.)
The first class was free through the Ma Yoga community, which is a community of moms, moms to be, birth practitioners, teachers, babies and dads too. The class was lead by yoga instructor Colleen Hieber, who also teaches prenatal yoga. She shared with us that “so many woman start doing yoga when they are pregnant, because being pregnant is one of those time you just have to step it up to be your best self.”
About four years ago, way before I got pregnant, I started practicing yoga. Once I got pregnant, I really wish I had done more prenatal and postnatal yoga in a community-like setting. Whatever style your planned delivery, instructors like Colleen will address it and guide you in your practice to be conscience of your body and always focused on breathing!
If you are currently pregnant or have an infant, I highly recommend yoga. You and your baby can start the same class we enjoyed when baby is as young as just 6 weeks old until crawling. My little man is now 11 and half months old and it’s definitely a little harder to hold a pose with a baby who is quite the social butterfly.
However, it was still pretty fun when our instructor incorporated poses with our babies. I think my baby boy enjoyed the entire experience, especially socializing with other babies and mommies. (The highlight of the experience for me was definitely meeting the other mothers!)
