Hello everyone! I hope you have all been enjoying all of this beautiful weather we’ve been having. My daughter and I have been making daily visits to the park. It’s been busy out there, since most kids have been enjoying spring break.
One of the many things I love about this time of year, are the frequent birthday parties. With the beautiful weather, it makes for some fabulous and creative events. It’s quite impressive. We had a birthday party last weekend for a very special family friend who turned three. Her parents planned an energetic party at a place called My Gym. It was quite entertaining. My favorite part? Aaliyah played so much, she fell asleep on the way home and stayed asleep when we got there. A very pleasant outcome!
I always have a difficult time trying to buy gifts for birthday parties. Especially ones for girls, because there are only so many toys out there. And most often, they have all the toys they can handle. So, I took advantage of the opportunity to create a special project. And I thought I would share it with all of you. Today I have prepared an easy tutorial on how to make a Headband Holder for all of your fabulous hair accessories. So let’s get started!
- Large container of Oatmeal
- 1/4 yard of Felt
- 1/4 yard of Burlap
- Decorative Trim
- Candle Holder (Ikea)
- Circular Candle Pan (Ikea)
- Acrylic Paint
- Hot Glue Gun
First we’re going to paint the bottom of your circular candle pan and candle holder. Set them aside to dry.
While your paint is drying, we’re going to measure and cut out one rectangular piece of felt and one piece of burlap. Check out my step by step instructions for How to cut Burlap.
Next we are going to attach the piece of felt to the container of oatmeal. Remove the lid from the container first. Apply hot glue to your felt and tightly wrap it around the container. Do small sections at a time, so you can keep it taut.
Once your glue dries, repeat the process with your piece of burlap. Be careful when apply the burlap, because the hot glue will seep through the holes in the burlap. Don’t burn yourself.
While your glue is drying, we’re going to make your top. Place your lid on the remaining piece of felt. Trace around the circumference and cut around the line. Using you glue gun, attach the felt piece to the outside of your lid.
Once your glue dries, place the lid back on the container. Now we’re going to apply your decorative trim. First, using your hot glue attach trim over the seam of the burlap at the back. Next attach trim at the top and the base of the container.
We’re in the home stretch. Apply a healthy amount of glue to the bottom and the sides of your circular candle pan. Attach the base of your oatmeal container to the candle pan.
Last step. Apply a healthy amount of glue to the top of your candle holder and attach it to the base of your oatmeal container. Make sure you center it, so your headband holder isn’t lopsided.
Great news! We’re done!!! You now have a fabulous new headband holder for all your beautiful hair accessories. So display it with pride!
The Garcias are finally moving, so I won’t have much to report in the next few weeks. But come back in two weeks and I promise to have something special for you all. Mother’s Day is coming up and we’ve got to get working.
