Unveiling a new tower this month, the Children’s Hospital of Orange County (CHOC) has created one of the most advanced pediatric centers in the country with their state-of-the-art patient care tower. Tripling the size of the existing patient care facility with the new tower and research capabilities, CHOC’S doctors, nurses, and staff will use the most advanced technology with integrated, standardized processes that will improve the care and safety for children. The region’s only dedicated pediatric emergency department will include operating rooms and related services, imaging services and clinical laboratory.
Fully Wired For Safety
Staying on the forefront of cutting edge technology, the new tower at CHOC includes: Surgery Wall of Knowledge that includes a large, flat-screen monitor to provide essential patient information for the surgery team; Emergency Department Patient Tacking System that tracks each patient from the moment of arrival; Plug and Play Medical Devices of patient monitors and IV and medication pumps that stream patient information directly into the medical record; Computerized Medication Safety System that scans patient ID bands at the bedside to ensure each patient receives the correct medication at the correct time; Advanced Nurse Call System that immediately connects patients and families to the nurse’s smartphone, as well as the nursing station; and much more.
Academic and Research Affiliations
The new patient care tower will house new and advanced services required of a premier pediatric facility. Affiliated with the University of California, Irvine, CHOC and UCI are coming together to train pediatricians of tomorrow through residency program.
The grand opening of the new tower will take place on Saturday, Feb. 2 and welcomes the entire community to join.
